Home for the Holidays!

As Featured In…

It’s the time of the year when families come together to share the wonderful holidays. What better time to transform your home into its best celebration mode!

Here are a few ideas to give your home a cozy and festive glow:

First, it is always a good idea to focus on the spaces that count the most. A foyer, if you have one, sets the stage. Make it fabulous with good lighting and carefully placed holiday decorations – especially those with sparkle and shine. A well selected area rug will add a touch of texture and warmth.

Since family and friends usually settle into the living or family room, careful attention should be paid to the arrangement of the furniture. Is the furniture grouped for the best conversational arrangement? Is there plenty of room to traverse the area? Are there easily accessible places for elderly guests to sit?

In the dining room, your goal should be a stimulating ambiance of dining, conversation, and fun. Drape the table with festive holiday linens. The centre piece should be special but low-profiled as you don’t want it to be a detriment to the conversation. Candlesticks are perfect. Mixing and matching your china and silver pieces can be a charming and eclectic way to enjoy those special heirlooms.

Don’t overlook smaller places that can have an added touch for the holidays. Windowsills, armoires, and yes, even bathrooms deserve a little touch of holiday magic.

Accessorize!

Accessories are the jewellery for your interior decorating, even more so during the holidays. Mix it up, try combining some of your favourite home accessories with traditional holiday décor. Family picture frames interspersed with colourful ornaments displayed on a decorative mirror will help add even more sparkle and shine.

Soft glowing light is complementary to your holiday decoration. From tall and tapered to short and stout, candles set a celebratory tone. Grouping candles in odd numbers and varying height can add interest or consider displaying them on a silver platter for even more light.

Remember Nature

When choosing plants to help add holiday cheer, think beyond the traditional poinsettias. Fill vases with a bouquet of fresh flowers or choose beautifully shaped topiaries.

Set your own style and once your holiday decorating is complete, put on your favourite holiday music, sit back, relax and enjoy your Home for the Holidays!
